3 gallons for around $4.00 Worked better than Round Up killed the weeds/stray grass on first application. One gallon of APPLE CIDER VINEGAR, 1/2 c table salt, 1 tsp Dawn. Mix and pour into a smaller spray bottle.

  • Lisa Lehr

I just sprayed my yard using the white vinegar. Time will tell if it worked!

Homemade Weed Killer 1 gallon of white vinegar 1/2 cup salt Liquid dish soap (any brand) Empty spray bottle Put salt in the empty spray bottle and fill it the rest of the way up with white vinegar. Add a squirt of liquid dish soap. This solution works best if you use it on a hot day. Spray it on the weeds in the morning, and as it heats up it will do its work.

    Thank you Angela!

  • Julia Carl

The salt would be great for sidewalk cracks, rock driveway etc. Pretty much anywhere you don't want stuff to grow again.

  • Doug Joanne Roche

This does not work - huge amount of weeds appear in about 2 weeks - does anyone have any more great suggestions

  • Kate Swope

    Must try!

  • Mary Ellen Sandahl

The site this is from says that once a month application is the routine during the growing season, and spot spraying perennial weeds that resprout. Anything that *permanently* killed weeds would also *permanently* sterilize the soil so nothing else would grow there, even if you wanted it to. Even the horrible Roundup (which Monsanto now agrees is NOT "biodegradable" and NOT "eco-friendly", and won't be advertised that way in future), has to be re-applied. Nature wants to grow things. That's why we're all here.

@ Suburban Lawn and Garden. Will you please suggest some better organic methods or sources that we can check out. Thx

  • Sandra Frederiks

Lesley, you asked a great question, I am not holding my breath waiting for an answer, but I am going to call the botanical gardens at our university and the one in Vancouver to see what they suggest. I will let you know what they say about it.

  • Lesley

Thank you very much, Sandra. I am also looking for an alternative to using bone meal and blood meal. I am vegetarian for humanitarian reasons. We obliviously know that the blood and bone meals comes at the expense of a beautiful life force.

  • Sandra Frederiks

I use eggshells on my tomato plants in place of bone meal. I read on the frugal gardener girls site that they use powdered milk in place of bone meal. I don't know if either of those is appealing or not. I've never used blood meal. I do lay blackberry branches over my garden when I plant bulbs. It seems to keep the squirrels away and cats don't like the thorns either so I don't have kitty poo in the garden. I just have to make sure the blackberry branches aren't viable, or they will root.

  • Lesley

Great ideas, Sandra! I will use them all. Thank you... :-)

  • Marcia Tole

It worked, I was amazed how quickly it worked.

  • Jan

It worked on some weeds and not on others and often the root grew another set of leaves.

  • Judy Dinsmore

Thanks Jan. That is good to know.

  • Cory Fuller

Beware everyone! My grass now has brown spots everywhere I sprayed it, 2 days afterwards, and a lot of the dandelions are still alive. I know we all want to save a buck here or there but this is not a good way to spot spray dandelions in your yard! Now I have to go reseed all of those areas and do what I should've done in the first place, just buy a good weed killer that doesn't kill my grass.

Amazing Weed Killer Spray. 1/2 gallon of Apple Cider Vinegar 1/4 c table salt 1/2 tsp Dawn liquid dish soap Mix and pour into a spray bottle Spray weeds thoroughly. It makes 1/2 gallon for around 6 dollars. It worked better than Round Up killed the weeds on first application. The Dawn dish soap strips the weed of its protective oils so the vinegar can work with deadly force. Safe to use a yard used by pets @ MyHomeLookBookMyHomeLookBook

The salt content alone will kill anything even blackberries. Only use this mix where you don't want anyyhing to grow for at least a few months. Think of it as extended control weed and grass killer

  • Cassandra Quantock

    ...Dawn soap is not "organic"

  • Nesha Hoopes

True dawn soap is not organic but then again hopefully no one is consuming this weed killer. New title is in order: Amazing Organic (except Dawn) Weed Killer Spray. I think that should suffice for the nit pickers out there. :/

  • Judy Dinsmore

    Thank you Nesha.

BEST Weed Spray. I made 3 gallons for around $4.00 last year after seeing a pin. Worked better than Round Up & killed the weeds/stray grass on first application. One gallon of APPLE CIDER VINEGAR, 1/2 c table salt, 1 tsp Dawn. Mix and pour into a smaller spray bottle. (you can purchase 3 gallon size Apple Cider Vinegar in the canning section of a good hardware store - cheap!)

Need to kill grass under trees. Will this vinegar, salt and Dawn mixture kill the trees?

Baking soda neutralizes the ph in the soil and nothing will grow there. use baking soda around all of the edges of flower beds to keep the grass and weeds from growing into beds. Just sprinkle it onto the soil so that it covers it lightly. Do this twice a year - spring and fall. Awesome!

eco-friendly weed remover: fill spray bottle with white vinegar and add a few squirts of dish soap. shake. spray over weeds and next day they're gone.

Will the solution of vinegar and dawn deterrent kill the grass where you have weeds when you spray or if you spray this around trees or pine trees to kill weeds

  • Judy Dinsmore

I do not know. Try it in an inconspicuous place. I pinned this from another site

    Thank you

Weed Killer ~ 2c vinegar, 1 T liquid soap, 1 T salt... Mix ingredients in spray bottle. Will kill anything it touches so I bonnet the weeds to protect the plants.
