White on white Californian Bungalow with shingles. Shepparton, address available on request

Good point Kate. My initial idea was to use vivid white on the shingles etc but my local paint shop thought this wasn't the way to go. It all comes down to personal taste, doesnt it! It is helpful getting other similar views, thanks for responding.

Another point to consider is the colour of your roof and guttering and whether it's overly visible. We've got galvanised guttering and roof, so it is pretty neutral back with white. I love white on white - it's such a timeless/classic scheme. The paint shop is probably still stuck in the idea of using feature colours ;-)

Our roof is the same although you can't see the roof from the street. I don't want to over complicate it but at the same time I like the interest that comes with using more than two colours. One idea I have to use dulux grand piano half strength and grand piano quarter strength, along with vivid white for trim. Have you seen that colour? Quite a traditional shade. The difference is subtle but maybe that adds something? Mmmmm so many decisions to make and things to learn renovating a house!

I've just looked in the Dulux Exterior Collection book - grand piano is a nice colour. I like the idea of using it half strength/quarter strength. I would recommend that you get sample pots made up and paint them on a board that you can move around the house so you can compare them in different levels of sunlight. Then you can compare them with the vivid white too

    I will do that, thanks

This has always been one of my favourite houses-a grand Californian Bungalow. They've repainted it a stark white, which doesn't look nearly as charming as this colour scheme
