A mother and daughter shop for American dolls at a department store, Japan, 1966. Ironically the dolls on display were made by American firms using factories in Japan. On the top shelf are Barbie dolls by Mattel, while on the bottom are Tammy dolls made by Ideal (with a more innocent stylized face that was more in line with Japanese taste than the more European Barbie). Both, though, would be outpaced by the introduction of Japan's first native fashion doll Licca-chan, made by Takara in 1967.

1970's Barbie - pretty sure the one in the top row-middle was the first "pretty in pink" Barbie I had and she came with a stand that I could pose her in.
