Pierre Balmain, 1950 - 1950's dress styles gained popularity with the creation of Dior's postwar "New Look" in 1947. It consisted of a full skirt, below mid calf length garments, a small waist, and a rounded shoulder line. The look was not well received by Americans at first, but gained popularity when the style began to dominate fashion magazines.

Navy silk polka-dot dress, c. 1940's. From the sweetheart of a neckline, the bodice is made even cuter with the gathers and bows at the shoulders. Fashioned with princess seams that cinch in, the (drop) waist is further embellished with a decorative seam that scallops around the dress, so cute. One layer of tulle is stitched into the underside of the dress at the level of the scalloping seam to give the dress a full skirt appearance without there being gobs of fabric, oh so delicate and lovely.
