these are sight word pointers and are great for finding sight words in books. The children choose a pointer and look for that word as they read. I printed the words on colored cardstock stars and taped them to straws. They've lasted a couple of years!

Whack-a-word! Call out a word and who ever hits it first with the hammer gets to keep it. Could think of lots of applications for this - recognizing sight words, finding rhyming words, learning vocabulary...

Split class into 2 teams. Teacher writes words on whiteboard. One person from each team gets an eraser. Teacher calls out a word. First team to erase the word gets a point.
