A new study concluded that infants on alternative immunization schedules are growing from 2.5% in 2006 to 9.5 % in 2009. While fewer babies in the Northwestern state are being vaccinated, parents are being admonished to stick to the recommended schedule of regular vaccines. The Oregon ALERT Immunization Information System , used to track children born between 2003 and 2009 in Portland, Oregon found trends displaying anti-vaccine attitudes from parents in this metropolitan area.

"Vector-borne disease" is the term commonly used to describe an illness caused by an infectious microbe that is transmitted to people by blood-sucking arthropods. The arthropods (insects or arachnids) that most commonly serve as vectors include: 1.) blood sucking insects such as mosquitoes, fleas, lice, biting flies and bugs, and 2.) blood sucking arachnids such as mites and ticks. The term “vector” refers to any arthropod that transmits a disease through feeding activity.
