What's the Reason | Idea | The Mailbox - great idea for explaining entertain, inform, and persaude. Help students identify an author’s purpose by examining current events. Point out that newswriting can entertain, inform, or persuade. Then direct each child to fold a large sheet of construction paper into thirds and label each section as shown. Have her search a newspaper or magazine for an example of each type of writing, cut out the example, and glue it in the appropriate column of her paper.
