Michael Danson, an expert in extremophile bacteria from Bath University, said: “The strawberry colour is produced by salt-loving organism Dunaliella salina. “They produce a red pigment that absorbs and uses the energy of sunlight to create more energy, turning the water pink.

Tried these and they were an epic fail! Decorated them at 10pm and by 6am, all the frosting had slid off the cupcakes and they were a droopy mess!! Even used a frosting with egg whites so they would "crust" and dry in an effort to make sure this wouldn't happen. Ran to the bakery for a replacement and was told the rock candy breaks down the frosting and makes it run!
