The Pallas Cat, or Manul, is about the size of a domestic cat but much stockier. It's fluffy with a thick tail, has short ears, stripes, spots, and, unusually for felids, striking round pupils in the eyes. Native to the steppes of central Asia, their habitat is remote and the cats are solitary and shy. They live underground wherever they can find shelter. Nocturnal, they eat rodents, birds, and insectivores. Manuls used to be hunted for their fur, but are now protected.
