A peony asks for just a few things. Full sun, somewhat alkaline soil, & planting at the proper depth. The eyes should be 2" below ground after they are watered in & the ground settles. They may refuse to bloom, if they are set too shallow or too deep. As long lived as peonies are, they resent transplanting. Smaller divisions transplant more readily. Larger divisions will take a number of yrs to grow into a robust, heavily blooming plant. Herbaceous peonies die back in winter & bloom in May.
Did you know that cornmeal is birth control for seeds? Sprinkle it on your garden and it will keep weed seeds from germinating and growing into plants. Of course, cornmeal will keep any seed from germinating, so don鈥檛 try this on your vegetable garden until your plants are established and you鈥檝e 铿乶ished planting seeds.
