First day project: Friend Tree. Everyone puts their thumb print on the tree then teacher later frames it and hangs it as a reminder that we are all friends. I could even use it at open house and let the parents join us since we're all a team.

Friday Journals--kids write a note on Friday to their parents telling what they learned that week. The parents write a short response back to their child, and the child brings the notebook back Monday. Each parent response earns a sticker for the cover. Love it--a great way to practice letter writing, and to get parents involved. Helps the children ingrain what has been taught into their memory too.

I love this idea for my door at the beginning of the year. Or even better, displayed when students first walk in our school.

Great idea. Im using it for reading week next year.
