A leaping red squirrel is snapped by photographer Drew Buckley in the Cairngorms National Park in Scotland

Squirrels are so much more than "cute"! Researchers have found that squirrels are capable of deception, interpreting the intentions of others, making three-dimensional maps to recall where they cache their nuts. Squirrels in California will cover their fur in the scent of rattlesnakes to mask their own scent from predators.

Red Squirrel - He Looks Perfect !

Remembering his dear deer friend Sandy's advice, Supersquirrel starts the day off on the right foot (paw) with a nice healthy breakfast!

This very young Albino Squirrel turned up at the wildlife hospital I used to volunteer at.

♥ ...just today we got to watch the little squirrel that comes by our suburban backyard find the acorns I hit in the tree branches for him, and he went and buried it under one of our crepe myrtle trees...carefully patting the soil when he was done. Sweet thing to get to watch out our window today as fall comes in...

He would help all the squirrels around and one time when people were cutting down a tree and the squirrels were grabbing there babies and bringing them to my dads yard because they knew they were safe there. He did feed them peanut butter bread so they also knew where to go.

The squirrel scampered over to fetch a peanut then took it to this spot to eat .... the powdery snow gave way under the weight .... but the squirrel just went with it and lay back in comfort in the soft snow to finish the nut! This is what I saw when I climbed up on the garden table to see what had happened :-D by Shibuya Sakura, via Flickr
