The Prayer Box, a Novel
All the latest buzz and the backstory to this best-selling novel.
Corolla lighthouse is also a must-see. While you're there, enjoy the historic shops of Old Corolla Village, too. A photo we snapped of a Corolla store front actually became the cover of The Sea Glass Sisters -- my first time to have one of my photos used on a book cover. That was a thrill, and a day of good memories was attached to the photo too.
While you're on the Outer Banks, don't miss traveling out to Old Town Manteo on Roanoke Island, where the Sir Walter Raleigh's Lost Colonists were dropped off almost forty years before the pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock. Unlike the pilgrims, the Lost Colonists vanished into history… but their legacy lives on in an epic outdoor drama reenacted on the Outer Banks each summer.
A young woman hired to clean out a decaying house on Hatteras island discovers the story of a lifetime in 81 carefully-kept prayer boxes.
A beautiful prayer box. This is more-or-less how I make mine, too. Pretty boxes and found items are perfect. Great craft to do with kids, too! "Prayer Box created with mod podge, tacky glue, Bible pages, scrapbook paper, carboard and wooden letters, paint, doilies, lace, and other decals."
A custom prayer box I made and gave away to a lucky reader in a reader contest through my book newsletter (to sign up for the newsletter and know about future contests go to www.Lisawingate.com). What went on this prayer box? Some gift wrap ribbon, printed scriptures, bits of an old greeting card, rip-torn edges, and a bling-bling stick on cross. Also inside, a scripture and a wooden cross on the bottom.
#Sundayschoolcraft Here's something really neat in Sunday school crafts! When The Prayer Box book came out, our youth group kids made prayer boxes as a "mission art" and sold them. They raised almost $3000 for tornado-damaged schools. Be sure to have your artisans sign the boxes on the bottom and add a scripture or thought, too!
