    I think diet is a dirty word. Instill good habits, and continue to eat what you want is my theory. Don't use dinner plates, use lunch plates to eat off of. When you are full, stop eating. If you are not hungry, don't snack, and I try to only drink 1 soda a day. I had dropped 15-20lbs with those small changes and now I'm at a good weight and have no problem maintaining it.
