One of the oldest known intact doll houses is in the Germanisches National Museum, Nuremberg, Germany. Known as the Stromer House, because it was presented to the museum by Baron von Stromer, its original owner is unknown, but it is dated 1639.
Tiny tools. William R. Robertson, Micro Maestro, is astonishingly adept working small in metal as well as in wood, focusing on 1/12th scale versions of period furniture, architecture and tools. He also makes his own hardware (of necessity, it’s not like you can just go out and buy a ¼″ copy of a 3″ plate. The keys for his locks are so tiny they are dwarfed by the tweezers he’s using to hold them, and yet the locks work.
