King Juan Carlos I of Spain (b. 5 Jan. 1938), 2nd child and eldest son of Infante Juan of Spain, Count of Barcelona. Juan Carlos became King in Nov. of 1975, having been handpicked by Gen. Francisco Franco in 1969 to be his successor over his father, Infante Juan. Franco hoped that JC would continue his Falangist policies but Juan Carlos instead instituted democracy. JC wed Princess Sophia of Greece and Denmark in 1962. The couple has 3 children.
