Black velvet and lace evening gown, Washington, D.C., ca. 1910. With slightly raised waist emphasized with wide band, short net sleeves, square neckline, A-line skirt with small train, the bodice sides and part of skirt overlaid with fine black lace, the center bodice, waist and lower part of skirt further decorated with floral embroidered tulle worked in gold metallic. Black and white silks and beads, the lower edge of skirt band trimmed with black fur.
1957 Christian Dior Evening Boot Shoe - made of leather, silk, cotton, plastic and glass. Jacket - Emile Pingat; Paris, France; 1885; Silk voided velvet, white artic fox & silk chenille fringe, lined with machine-quilted satin. Dolman-sleeves; considered the epitome of luxury & good taste at the time. It was a garment only a wealthy, society lady could afford. The house of Pingat (1860-96) was as highly esteemed as that of Worth & known for superb craftsmanship and elegance.
