WOW!!! To make a 3D map, take birds eye view photos of the shelves and put them on wood pieces. The birds eye view photos can be made by standing on a chair or step ladder. The bases for the tables are plastic jar lids and the table tops are cut up corrugated boxes. The other pieces are cut from scrap wood. Using the mini furniture models, children were able to make a classroom model.
Penny Maps: 3-D Maps with Children - PreKinders
Each student traces a state on a totilla, cut it out, and cover it in icing (for glue). As they refer to a map they place rivers (twizzlers), mountain ranges (chocolate chips), mountain peaks (kisses), lakes (blue sprinkles), deserts (cinnamon), and cover the rest with land (green coconut). Then they make a map key with an index card
I like this food idea for map, but it can be used for landforms

i like this! how fun would it be to make a gigantic map display (i'm talking wide open hallway size) where each student researches a state and labels it with several illustrations that represent that state (like this but more), then all states get pieced together to form a dazzling visual map.. oooh!
