Another interesting contemporary costume study, this time by Hans Holbein the Younger.  It’s very unusual to see women’s shoes in Medieval and Renaissance artwork, making information about them scarce.

This is a detail from the 15th century Flemish set of tapestries depicting the senses, The Lady and the Unicorn. This one represents Taste. The lady in question is most probably Blanche of Lancaster, daughter of John of Gaunt (son of Edward III and so on)
