The interior of the Marvilla church in Santarem (Portugal) is covered with azulejos. The most interesting date from 1620 and 1635, these are azulejos knows as tapete (carpet style) with multicoloured plant motifs. These motifs are seen in still extant tiles in Portuguese Macau, as well as many towns in (island) Southeast Asia.

Azulejos Along The Douro Railway - via ImageLegacy, Gail at Large 25.08.2014 | When visitors to Portugal ask me what sort of locally-made products would make good souvenirs, I make a point of suggesting azulejos, or Portuguese ceramic tiles. To me, they represent Portugal very well in terms of cultural value, artistic variety, their place in preserving Portuguese history, and their prevalence throughout the country. Porto food tour - We began our tour at Porto’s Bolhão Market. The market is in disrepair, its offerings in transition at the moment, suspended between what was, and whatever is to come, as the city re-purposes the space. It is unsettling to meet vendors about to lose their livelihood, but good to visit, and to support them, while some traditions remain. Portugal
