Homemade elderberry syrup for cold and flu (recipe from Mountain Rose Herbs) 1/2 c. dry elderberries 1 cinnamon stick 5 cloves 1 T. freshly grated ginger 2 c. water 1 c. honey Combine everything except honey in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Turn down the heat, cover and simmer until the liquid is reduced by half (about 20-30 minutes). Strain, pressing down on the berries to extract all the juices. Stir in honey and store in refrigerator up to two weeks. When sick with cold or flu, take up to 1 tablespoon per hour. As a preventative measure during cold & flu season take a tablespoon per day.
