Tokyo’s Kitanomaru Park, is one of the city’s premiere cherry blossom-viewing sites. Visitors rent boats to row on the moat, and admire the huge trees planted bankside, whose branches cascade toward the water. Picnicking under the trees isn’t allowed, but the nearby Yasukuni Shrine hosts food stands that cater to the huge crowds that turn out for hanami. Visitors mill about late into the evening, enjoying the sight of the thousands of illuminated trees planted around the shrine.
