When the perfect thread comes on a spool that's imperfectly sized for your sewing machine, place the spool in a heavy mug, and position it on your work surface directly underneath the spool pin.
I have a large assortment of Serger thread from my business. I use it daily on charity quilts etc. Of course not on bridal or anything delicate. I have a
wooden board with part of clothes hanger for my spool it has worked great
for many years. I had a purchased spool holder (it was mostly plastic)
it was all over the place, I got rid of it.
Sorry, Ieft out the thread sits on a dowel rod center, the hanger piece off to one side. I am very happy with this.
I have been sewing since the dinosaurs have been around, and I have never used serger thread with my regular sewing machine. It is thinner, and doesn't have the strength that regular thread has. I also do not buy cheaper thread as it just does not stand up. I've learned my lessons the hard way!
@ Pacalipstick Gramma I buy serger thread, and it is NOT thinner than regular thread. I use the spindle part of a CD stacker. I duct tape it to the table.. works great.
I just bought a Brother "project runway" machine last night and have a bunch of those threads that are cone shaped (use to hand sew everything) any suggestions?! some say its ok on the machine and some say no.. If I wanted to re-spool it how would I go about that since a normal thread doesn't fit where the bobbin goes and the cone is to big for the thread spot?! Sorry
