Pitorro is Puerto Rican moonshine. An artisan rum produced by distilling sugar cane, and with a higher alcohol content than legal rum. Pitorro is traditionally cured and aged by adding fruits (coconut, pineapple, tamarind, strawberries) and letting the mixture sit or buried for several months. Pitorro in Puerto Rico is consumed during the Holiday season (November trough February).
Don Q Cristal Rum (Destilería Serrallés, Ponce, Puerto Rico) - Don Q is the most popular rum brand in Puerto Rico, and has been in production since 1932 in a distillery started in 1865 by the Serrallés family. Most of their rums seem aimed at the lower end of the market, but the Cristal has some quite nice characteristics, for such an inexpensive rum. (via boozenik.com)
Don Q Gran Añejo - Platinum Medal/Top in Category of Extra-Aged Rums at the 2011 SIP Awards. Aging mellows a spirit. It also brings out new flavors and aromas. Our Gran Añejo contains rums aged between 3 and 12 years, creating a balance between sweet and dry that you won’t get in other spirits. Drink it on the rocks, drink it neat. If you must, add a splash of ginger (we won’t tell anyone). Drink it slow, and share a moment with your friends.
Gran Añejo contains rums aged between 3 and 12 years, This is the way rum should taste
Don Q Coco - What's the first thing that comes to mind when you think of coconut? Tropical beaches? Nimble climbers with machetes? How about our beloved piña colada? Don Q Coco invokes all of these things. Using aged rum, natural essential flavor and extraction of real coconut, it's not just good for a flavored rum, it's a great rum, period. It's also useful wherever there are Bahama Mamas, Rum Runners, and some quality hammock time.
Coconut rum, so delicious. It makes me miss Puerto Rico.
