Decorating + entertaining with mosquito repelling plants
I really want to do this. Lavender Hidcote - This easy-to-grow sun perennial thrives in full sun normal garden soil. Plants vigorously grow to form mounds of fragrant, silvery foliage 18 tall 24 wide. This drought-tolerant hardy perennial has extremely fragrant foliage
A better way to grow strawberries and other hanging fruits and berries is to use growing boxes or tubes elevated off of the ground. You can even grow them at waist or chest level for easier growing, tending and picking. No more rotting caused by laying upon the ground while developing!
The newspaper will prevent any grass and weed seeds from germinating, but unlike fabric, it will decompose after about 18 months. By that time, any grass and weed seeds that were present in the soil on planting will be dead. It’s green, it’s cheaper than fabric, and when you decide to remove or redesign the bed later on, you will not have the headache you would with fabric.
Did you know that you can grow another complete celery stalk from the bottom piece that you cut off and throw away? This is new to me, too, but I have been doing it this year and it works! I use a lot of celery when cooking and I hope to save quite a bit by re-growing it throughout the spring and summer.
To grow the celery, bring home a bunch of celery and chop of the top about 2-3 inches up from the bottom. Plant the bottom part in your garden soil and keep well watered. Celery likes a lot of water and temperatures between 65-75 are ideal for rapid growth. It can tolerate full to partial sun. In a month or two you should have your new celery stalks ready to cut and eat. Just be sure to keep it well watered. Good luck
