Visual artists Remco de Fouw and Rachel Joynt have secured a commission for a public sculpture at National University of Ireland Maynooth. Spherical in form, the piece may suggest from nature a hive, cocoon or cellular skin – or from the world of technology may infer solar cells or silicon wafers. The artists describe it as reflecting ‘a union between the simple and complex forms common to science and nature’.
With its unique location in the historical town of Maynooth, with a medieval castle at the gates of the university, National University of Ireland Maynooth is also only 25 minutes away from Dublin, Ireland’s vibrant capital city. The University is also adjacent to Ireland’s ‘silicon valley’, with strong links to Intel, HP, Google and other giants of industry.
Russell Library, NUI Maynooth, Ireland. Holds the university's collection of pre-1850 titles. I had the pleasure of working here for a year or so and got to handle folios dating right back to the 1600's. There is nothing like the feel and smell of a really old book!
