Bread Pudding with Rum Sauce by Belinda Hobby 6 cups of stale French bread cut into chunks 1 ½ cups of milk 1 ½ cups of half and half 3 large eggs 1 cup of sugar 2 teaspoons of vanilla ½ teaspoon of cinnamon ¼ teaspoon of nutmeg 1/8 teaspoon of salt 2 tablespoons of melted butter ½ cup of butter 1 cup of sugar 1 egg ½ cup of rum or bourbon Place bread chunks into large bowl, pour milk over. Stir a little to break the pieces up, let stand until all milk is absorbed. In another bowl, beat eggs, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon and salt together. Stir into bread mixture. Pour into a buttered baking pan. Drizzle with the melted butter. Bake at 350 degrees for about an hour, or until set. To make sauce: In a saucepan, melt butter, add sugar, rum or bourbon and egg. Whisk to blend. Cook over low heat, until thick. If I make the sauce first, the pudding doesn’t get made! J
