The Grand Duchess Vladimir Tiara - The loops and pearl drops of make this a neoclassical style stunner. Commissioned by the Grand Duchess Vladimir of Russia in 1890, the tiara consists of fifteen interlaced diamond circles each centered by a swinging teardrop pearl. the pearls can also be changed out with emerald drops (Queen Mary devised this with the remaining unmounted Cambridge emeralds). It is sometimes seen without any drops.
Mary's own design in 1914 using pearls & diamonds that she owned is a copy of a tiara owned by her grandmother, Princess Augusta of Hesse. She had been given it by her family prior to her marriage. strong French influence in the design of the 19 arches, each enclosing an oriental pearl suspended from diamond lover’s knots & surmounted by single diamonds and upright pearl spikes.
