Sold for: $7,380 Gilded Molded Copper and Cast Zinc Leaping Stag Weathervane, America, late 19th century, full-body form with cast zinc head, ears, and antlers, on a tubular vertical and horizontal posts, the horizontal one with molded sheet copper stump over which the deer leaps, on stand, (imperfections), overall ht. 30, overall lg. 30 in. Estimate $4,000-6,000

The Laurens purchased this leaping stag weathervane in Amesbury, Massachusetts. It was from a home in Rye, New Hampshire, that once belonged to Marshall Field. The maker of this late nineteenth-century example is unknown. "When I arrived at the auction house," says Jerry, "it was hanging from a string and I had to get up on a ladder to get a closer look."
