Sir Elton John is seen here showing off his football skills to George Best in 1976. Singing superstar John was a part-owner of North American League team Los Angeles Aztecs at the time and former Manchester United great Best had recently joined the club, for whom he made 23 appearances that year. After playing with Fulham for a season, he played again in California in 1977 and 1978. Elton has always been a keen football fan and became chairman of Watford in 1976

The magic of vinyl is illustrated perfectly in this 1980 picture of Diego Maradona. The Argentina superstar is one of the greatest footballer in history, with his finest hour coming later in the decade when he led his country to World Cup glory in Mexico in 1986. In the quarter-final against England he famously scored one controversial goal with his hand then one wonderful goal with his feet

First among Equals? England captain Bobby Moore pictured in a London recording studio in 1969 with reggae band The Equals, reworking their hit record Viva Bobby Joe into Viva Bobby Moore. West Hams Moore was on top of the world at the time, having led England to World Cup glory three years previously. The Equals were formed by Eddy Grant, who later enjoyed a solo career - their most famous song is probably the 1966 hit Baby, Come Back

Here the Chelsea squad are recording their famous song Blue is the Colour before the 1972 League Cup final. The song is still the one most closely identified with the London club. It didnt prove to be a very lucky omen for the Blues before that final however, as a late goal from George Eastham won the cup for Stoke

This is Portuguese great Eusebio in Harlow town centre before the 1968 European Cup final between his Benfica team and Manchester United. He seems to have settled on the classic 1960s Otis Redding song (Sittin On) The Dock of the Bay. In the final at Wembley, Eusebio famously smashed a late shot straight at Alex Stepney, with the score at 1-1, as United went on to win a memorable final 4-1 after extra-time

Brazil icon Pele playing his guitar at a training camp in Mexico during the 1970 World Cup. Arguably the most famous international tournament of them all saw Brazil win their third World Cup in four, memorably beating Italy 4-1 in the final. Peles performances during the 1970 World Cup were among the finest ever seen on a football field

Parkour in Gaza by Ali Ali I took this picture in Khanyonis town in the south of the Gaza Strip, in a graveyard. The subject of parkour attracts me, because it is very rare here and people are not familiar with it. These children are the only team that do this kind of sport. What I was really interested in was showing how they do it, and also how extremely happy they are despite being in a place of death, a graveyard - which seems the only place they can find joy.
