Japanese Traditional Clothing
Traditional Japanese hairstyle Okinawa Soba: Although wigs were popular in Japan, this hair is real. The comb lines on the oiled and fragrant hair are clear. The natural strands, already falling out here and there, are seen at the back. Also notice the turtle-shell comb fixed in her hair at the top. A simple but beautiful portrait of a daily style in Japan during the 1870s.
1890's. Women practicing Ikebana. Two women in kimono are practicing Ikebana (traditional Japanese flower arrangement). The woman on the left is making an arrangement in a square vase, while the other woman is using a round one. Flowers yet to be arranged are kept on a tray, while a pot with water is kept near the knees of the woman on the right.
