Schwerin Castle, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany

Schwerin Castle - This Castle is located in the city of Schwerin, the capital of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern state, Germany. First reports of a castle on the location were made in 973. There was a fort of the Polabian Slav tribe of the Obotrites on an island in the large Lake of Schwerin. Under Duke Johann Albrecht I. (1525–1576), the fort was turned into a castle. The defensive functionality of the fortress was replaced with adornment and concessions to comfort. The castle underwent many changes through the centuries, but its current design was completed in 1857 and symbolised the powerful dynasty of its founder, Friedrich Franz II.
