Article arguing that North America could take a few cues from Japan in so far as some of the frameworks Japan had in place prior to the earthquake/radiation disaster helped to lighten the blow. Specifically the article sited social cohesion and it's manifestation in local food system strategies.-Women lead most co-ops and also run almost 17,000 small-scale food processing and direct sales companies which flourish at over 16,000 farmers markets across Japan.
