October 13, 2010 ~ This week’s Picture of the Week is from the book, The Pictorial History of the Oxford Orphanage: Founded in 1872 by the Grand Lodge of North Carolina A.F. & A.M. The Oxford Orphanage was the first Masonic orphange for children in the United States. Built in Oxford, North Carolina it was originally established as St. John’s College in 1858. The college struggled and eventually closed down. In 1872 the property became the Oxford Orphans Asylum. ^cs
