Worlds Fair 1939, New York poster.

Official guide book of the New York World's Fair, 1939. #worldsfair The origins of the #NewYork expo of 1939 were truly American. In 1935, a group of retired policemen thought up the idea of holding a universal exhibition in the city. They were spurred on by the success and economic benefits of the 1933 Chicago Fair. The Depression was possibly at its height and the fair was seen as a chance to boost confidence and kick start the city’s economy. #Expo2015 #Expostory

Many countries around the world participated in the #NewYork expo of 1939–1940, and over 44 million people attended its exhibits in two seasons. The #NYWF was the first exposition to be based on the future, with an opening slogan of "Dawn of a New Day", and it allowed all visitors to take a look at "the world of tomorrow" #Expo2015 #ExpoStory
