Bonnie and Clyde, pictured here in 1933, were well-known outlaws, robbers, and criminals who traveled the Central United States with their gang during the Great Depression. The couple were eventually ambushed and killed in Louisiana by law officers.

*THE HOLOCAUST: during World War ll was the genocide of 6 million European Jews led by Adolph Hitler. It is estimated that 2/3 of the European Jews parished. If you include other groups such as those with disabilities the total would reach between 11 and 17 million people.

Hooded Inmate. Eastern State Penitentiary was the world's first true "Penitentiary." In order to encourage penitence - or true regret - in the hearts of criminals, inmates would spend their entire sentence in solitary confinement. On the rare occasion when an inmate left his cell, a hood was placed over his head to ensure his identity would remain anonymous. Ideally, no inmate would ever see the face of another inmate.
