This was a commission I painted in the style of Monet. His painting Impression Sunrise gave rise to the naming of the Impressionist movement. My client wanted a portrait rather than landscape sized painting to go above the fireplace. So we cropped the original and I painted this. What I loved was being able to see the colors in the room in which this would hang, and subtly adjust the palette accordingly.

Claude Monet (14 November 1840—5 December 1926) was a founder of French impressionist painting, and the most consistent and prolific practitioner of the movement's philosophy of expressing one's perceptions before nature, especially as applied to plein-air landscape painting. The term Impressionism is derived from the title of his painting Impression, Sunrise. Photo circa 1865. Photographer unknown.
