Niello Openwork Heart Pendant - The Met Store - The Museum's Niello Openwork Heart Pendant is based on a design for an engraved niello ornament from a Renaissance book in the Department of Drawings and Prints. Niello work, developed at least two thousand years ago, is a highly intricate technique of decorating the surface of a metal object. Because of the method’s inherent danger for craftspeople, there are few contemporary versions of niello work.
