Interacting galaxy pair Arp 273, in the constellation Andromeda. The larger of the spiral galaxies, UGC 1810, has a disk that is distorted into a rose-like shape by the gravitational tidal pull of its companion galaxy below, UGC 1813.

Australian National University astrophysicist Brian Schmidt chose this Hubble photo of Supernova SN 1994D as his favorite space image, which he called "the poster child of a type 1a supernovae." The supernova is the bright spot on the lower left, shown near the galaxy galaxy NGC 4526.

A rose made of galaxies: This image of a pair of interacting galaxies called Arp 273 was released to celebrate the 21st anniversary of the launch of the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope. The distorted shape of the larger of the two galaxies shows signs of tidal interactions with the smaller of the two. It is thought that the smaller galaxy has actually passed through the larger one.
