Mix a paste of baking soda and lemon juice. The consistency of the paste should be about that of pancake mix. Spread the paste all along the bottom of the toilet (where it meets the floor), the toilet seat, and any other area that gets a lot of overspray. Let it set for about 10-15 minutes. Then spray the dried paste with white vinegar. Let it fizzle. When done fizzing wipe up with a damp cloth. Don't forget about the walls and cupboards on either side of the toilet.

Use Alka-Seltzer to... clean your toilet. So you’re having friends for dinner in 20 minutes, and you’ve just noticed your grimy toilet? No worries— drop in a couple of tablets of Alka-Seltzer, leave for ten minutes and then easily wipe scum away! The fizzing action of Alka Seltzer works as a powerful cleaning agent, so you don't have to get your hands dirty. (I have heard of this before but have never actually done this. Need to try sometime soon.)
Cleaning your toilet - Freshen the toilet bowl with denture or antacid tablets in between scourings. Drop two in the water, let soak for at least 20 minutes, then brush and flush. A can of cola dumped in for one hour also does the trick. The phosphoric acid in the beverage removes rust rings and other mineral deposits.
