If you put a ring of icing around for a border it helps to keep the filling in and helps it not to slide.
An icing dam with firm icing will keep it together and if it a big one i put a big dab in the moddle of the cake to or the center sinks a bit
I did this yesterday. B/c dam with blueberry pie filling between blueberry/boysenberry cake layers that were torted.
You can also push 3 or 4 drinking straws into your cake & then cut them off level with the top of your cake to keep it from sliding. Do this before you put your final decorating icing on your cake.
