@erin - on the raw food diet you actually want to eat more fruit than veggies because they have more calories and you need to make sure you are getting enough calories since you are eating only raw foods which all tend to be lower in calories than foods in the typical American diet.
So the bulk of this diet comes from sugary fruit? That sounds like a great way to feel exhausted and weak all day long :-(
Rene', due to the other elements in fruit, the sugar in fruit doesn't have the same effect on our bodies as the sugar in candy. Basically, the the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

Lol the sugar in fruit is natural. It doesn't hurt your body like processed sugars.
@Stacey Sockel: disagree. We're not genetically designed to consume that much sugar. The majority needs to be leafy great vegetables. Do further research and you'll hopefully agree.
Who put fruit at the bottom?! :S I definitely agree with Erin - vegetables ALWAYS need to be at the bottom, then the fruit comes after! :)
who cares which goes on top or middle, both veggies and fruit are good for you. and as an esthetician i can say fruit (like apples and oranges) are more beneficial to the skin's health. (not saying veggies aren't, just sharing info)
This is the worst idea ever. You need a shit load more protein and you need it from animals. Check out the Paleo diet if you want real nutrition from real foods, not some unbalanced fad diet like raw.
... And more fat if you're going to have any chance of absorbing anything else But sugar. Any sugar in large amounts isn't good for you, it's not a very efficient fuel source at all
For me, fruit goes at the top instead of the bottom, avocados, seeds, grains in the middle and veggies on bottom..

Friend of mine was on strict paleo diet, she was then out of work for a month due to electrolytes and liver function levels all dangerously out of balance..
Yes, you need protein but animals aren't the only source. Quinoa and other grains contain it. Just like milk is not the only source of calcium. Green leafy veggies are good for that. We do need amino acids which come from animals or man made supplements. I prefer to get my amino acids from animal meat but you don't need to eat a bunch of meat to be healthy. Moderation has been the best for me.
I agree Andrea you would need more protein. However one would choose to consume it. The above diet would not work in the long term because human beings are designed to run on protein, carbohydrates and fat- the vegetables and fruit function as carboydrates and the nuts, avocado etc.function as fat. Heart disease has been a claim from those against people following a Paleo type of eating plan, but if you are correctly following this type of meal plan all you are really doing is cutting out all sugar, processed food and flour. There are literally thousands of cases of people who have followed the diet and now have lower blood pressure, weigh less, have more youthful appearance, have better athletic performace. AND have better cardiovascular health.
Whatever I'm just saying you shouldn't knock it until you try it and if our ancestor's all ate that way....
Whoa there, I wasn't knocking anything. I was just stating that you need amino acids. Not saying anything is wrong with less meat. I think we can all agree that less meat is better for our bodies, our planet and our animal friends. I keep my meat to a minimum because it makes me feel better physically. I don't know about anyone else but after eating a very veggie diet, eating meat makes me sick. I wasn't knocking, I was agreeing. I was saying meat isn't a main course. You don't need it for protein. You do need the acids. *I* prefer to eat the meat instead of taking a synthetic acid.
And yes, no processed foods for me as much as possible. I've lost weight and feel better. I do indulge every now and again.
Been on the raw diet for years and I feel amazing, I've become faster and stronger at all my outdoor sports, my skin looks incredible, no body odor or breath odor, my hair and nails are awesome, I also don't get allergies and headaches ever anymore and as a collegiate athlete I can tell you there is a TON of protein, carbs and fat… other wise I wouldn't be preforming as well as I do now. Love it!
Those who feel sick after meat are you eating commercially raised meat or actual meat that's grass fed and organic? There's not much evidence stating real meat causes any negative effects. It's unfortunate that most studies, for some reason, focus on commercially raised. I guess the same goes for commercial fruit and vege. Empty calories packed with sugar
Sugar on fruit doesn't have the same effect as sugarin candy? Ask a diabetic ... The sugar in fruit has a pretty big imact. Diabetics usually stick to green apples or berries, they have the least sugar content out of any fruit. Do those eating raw in here eat many fats too?
