Canals connected to the Ticino River crisscrossed Milan (Leonardo Da Vinci worked on their designs) but were abandoned and largely covered up after World War II. Several remain in the neighborhood of Navigli and are being restored. The area now has a booming boho restaurant and nightlife scene—plus the city's best weekend flea market.
