The common drinking straw can help make sure you always have a pen or pencil where you need it. All you need is a wide enough straw (the large ones that come with slushies should work) taped to your notebook—voila! Pencil holder.

Create a pencil holder by taping a straw to the binding. If using a small diameter straw, slit the straw down one side (McDonalds straws are great since they have lines) and tape the slit facing down on the binding. The slit expands and holds the straws in place.
