\♥/♥\♥/ I'm going to guess this wooden piece was not originally intended for use in a kitchen, but rather as a display fixture in a store at the turn of the 19th century. It might have been free-standing which would account for its depth. Then again, it could have been a library table, or even a factory table, since nothing in the late Victorian age escaped ornamentation.
