Wash your load of towels on the hot cycle and add 1 cup of vinegar… just hot water and the vinegar, nothing else. Let the washer do it’s job. Then, if you still smell a little bit, rewash with just hot water and 1/2 cup of baking soda. Again, no detergent, just baking soda and hot water. Voila!
Get fluffy towels again. Wash towels in hot water with one cup distilled white vinegar. Wash towels again in hot water with 1/2 cup baking soda. Run through dryer. Towels smell fresh and feel new!

Once a month, add a cup of Distilled White Vinegar & 1 Cup of Baking Soda directly into the drum and use HOT water for washing. Then, I add about ½ cup of vinegar into the fabric softener compartment and ½ cup of baking soda into the detergent compartment. Set the wash on “Quick Wash” with HOT water and High Spin Cycle. If the mold situation is really bad,use bleach instead of vinegar and baking soda. But make sure you run a few empty cycles just with hot water before doing a load of wash.

Help for smelly and/or non-absorbant bath towels: 1 cup vinegar 1/2 cup baking soda HOT water run towels through a wash cycle containing vinegar and very hot water (add some boiling water). Follow it by another wash cycle, this time containing the baking soda. Then dry.
