A superb example of gothic architecture, Sainte-Chapelle is located on the île de la cite. The upper chapel of the Sainte Chapelle, shown in the picture, was built between 1242 and 1248 by King Louis IX, and restored by Eugène Viollet-le-Duc in the 19th century. It is renowned for its numerous floor-to-ceiling stained glass windows.
