The weakest of Stross's fantastic espionage/horror series. This one puts too much emphasis on side characters, with reluctant programmer/intelligence agent/computer aided necromancer, neing shunted to the side in favor of a special ops superspy Modesty Blaise analog. The end result too often plays like RPG fanfic rather than the sly, yet still terrifying twining of Info tech and Lovecraftian magic that sets the series apart. Cliched villain and monster as well. Good, but read other volumes first
