I guess it depends, but I usually just give friends a huge discount (cover cost of supplies).
I definitely charge. It takes just as much time to do work for them! I do offer a discount though.
This is a tough one. I realized I was spending more time on (free) work for friends than real work for me. Had to recalibrate Tough though.
my dad is a mechanic and he trades labor a lot, so they each still buy the supplies but no charge on the work. that's how we got our walls painted and our back patio built!
We charge for friends (with a discount), but not our CLOSEST friends or family... although family usually get sneaky and find ways to pay us behind our backs.
