I wish-i wish-I had this!!
We did this at our old house when we remodeled the kitchen. Except we reinstalled the kitchen cabinets in Lisa's craft room.
Oh my!! This is wonderful. A dream come true.
I wonder if I could install this in a free standing configuration? My basement, where my washer and dried are is unfinished. While I would love to finish the whole basement, there are just too many stumbling blocks.
Leslie, if you have walls framed you could install cabinets on them even though the walls are unfinished. Drywall is primarily there to partition each area as its own space. You really couldn't create the above configuration as truly "freestanding," though.
As a very rough overview - attach a 1x4 to the wall frame to create a ledge to put the upper cabinets on (one at a time). Screw through the back of the first cabinet into the studs behind. Set the next cabinet against the first, make sure the faces are level (you may have to put shims behind it), screw the cabinets together, then screw the second cabinet to the studs behind.
Rinse and repeat. Take down the ledge.
This is only a rough summary of the process. Results may vary. Do not try this at home.
I could do laundry all day in this room!!
